Run for Hope started in 2012, founded by Sarah Powell (a volunteer and ambassador for Pink Hope) and her personal trainer Alannagh Pooley from FullFitment Personal Training. They both wanted to help raise awareness and much needed funds for Pink Hope. In 2017 they decided they would also like the event to raise money for beyondblue and so begins the new partnership in 2018.
Sarah was diagonsed with breast cancer when she was 29 years old and subsequently discovered she carries a BRCA1 mutation (the same one made famous by Angelina Jolie). Sarah went on to have a risk reducing bilateral mastecomy, and ovaries and fallopian tubes removed, all to help reduce her risk of cancer. Sarah has 2 young children who may have inherited this gene fault but she knows they will have all the support and information they need, thanks to Pink Hope.
